Presentation to Samaritans

The speaker at the meeting on 2nd November was from Telford Samaritans.  Joanna 272 gave a full insight into the work that they do in this area.  In the year March 2017 to March 2018 they handled 17,900 telephone calls, 5600 e-mail contacts, 4800 SMS contacts and saw 160 people face to face.

Charity Film Night 2018

Principally to support our local Samaritans branch as well as other local Rotary charities, this year’s Film Evening was held on 30th October. Organised by Sophie Yates and Jim Tranter the film was the Stephen Spielberg cold war movie ”Bridge of Spies”.

October Food Bank Collection

The second donation to the Telford Foodbank took place in October following a collection of items at a Club meeting. Richard's car was well down on its suspension as it left the Buckatree carpark for the Sutton Hill base of the foodbank. The next collections takes place on 30 November, 4 January, 1 February and 1 March.

Alison's Bee Class

The Club were intrigued to learn about bees, particularly honey bees.  Local beekeeper Alison Wakeman shared her extensive knowledge about keeping bees.

50 Tree Walk

Vic Young writes:

After a very interesting talk from the Friends of Dothill Local Nature Reserve (FDNLR) last June, some Rotarians, spouses, partners and Inner Wheel members gathered at Admaston House on 11th October to be shown around the Reserve and its 50 Tree Trail (set up as part of the Telford Town’s 50th celebrations).

Preparing for Tree of Light 2018

Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Wellington met on Friday 12th October to help prepare for the coming Rotary Telford Tree of Light Campaign.  Members packed over 1000 envelopes which are to be sent out to contributors to the 2017 to the Rotary Tree of Light.  

Wellington Welcomes a New Rotarian

On Friday 12th October Wellington Rotarians welcomed Mandy Fencott into membership of the Rotary Club of Wellington, and to the fellowship of Rotary throughout the world.

John Morris-Roberts of the Telford Centre Club writes;  "We were privileged to have the President of Wellington Rotary Club at our 'Allo Allo' party at the Wroxeter hotel on the 23 September.  I attach a photo of President Peter and Gill, and they both dressed a up and had FUN, as did the other 107 people attending."
