40 Years Service

A surprise was in store for Rotarian John Davies at the Club meeting on 22nd September. John was invited to join President Brian who presented him with a special award - a certificate to celebrate 40 years of Rotary Service. John first joined the Rotary Club of Wellington in 1975. After a short break in service he became President in 1992 and was made a Paul Harris Fellow in 2014.

Jacob Chandler - Artist & Sculptor

The Club welcomed Jacob Chandler a young sculptor intent on following his dream.  Everyone was enthralled both by Jacob's talk, which led us through the steps from an initial idea to the finished bronze, and by a stunning example of his work. 

Higher Education Award 2017

President Brian, assisted by chair of Youth Services Keith Mainwaring, presented this year's Higher Education Awards to former new College students Lara Wallace and Hattie Butler.

Lara is due to start studying for a mathematics degree at Aberystwyth University in the near future.  She has used her award to provide specialist software for a tablet designed to enhance her studies.

Visitors Galore

Former Bursary recipient and singer Amy Lake returned to the Club to share with them details of her work on cruise ships. Her audience was enhanced by several members of Oswestry Borderlands Club who, along with former Wellington member Peter Martin, were on a scatter week.

Working in Sardinia

Rotarian Mike Osborn enthralled his audience with tales of the time when he had been posted to an Air Battle School in Sardinia.  He included the story of an local orchestra member who on being sacked took refuge in Sicily only to return with a violin case and knowledge that he was to be re-instated!
